I had hoped to be using today's post to celebrate the completion of my first pair of knit socks. However, circumstances have been against me in the last couple of days, so they currently look like this:
I've got to the end of the gusset decreases, so only have the foot and toe to go and sock two will be done. Unfortunately, I can't see myself getting anything done on these in the next few days, as I managed to sprain my wrist again while out on a work do on Friday evening, so working with such small needles is currently impossible.
Moral of this story - don't attempt to do gymnastics while drunk! |
I have been able to crochet though, so have been working on the sofa bed afghan (not technically a YoP WIP).
The pile of squares is growing steadily; just 13 left to make now and I can start joining them. My plan is to weave in the ends of each square as it gets joined.
I might have got a lot more of it done today, but I have spent the last six hours doing nothing but wedding prep! I spent three hours designing the invitation cards, before getting the go ahead from Jamie to order them from Vistaprint. Then I spent another couple of hours designing all of the inserts to go in the cards, like venue directions, menu choices and RSVP cards.
Adobe Illustrator has been indispensable today |
I ended my marathon of wedding planning by booking our honeymoon. We are heading to America, spending four nights in San Fransisco before transferring to Las Vegas for five nights. I am so excited about it! Any recommendations from all you local Americans for things to do/places to eat would be very welcome. In particular, I'm keen to get recommendations for restaurants in San Fransisco, as we will be celebrating my birthday while we are out there.
But where are the drunken gymnastics pics? Sorry about your wrist!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, more about these drunken gymnastics. Inquiring minds want to know.
ReplyDeleteSecond of all, you're going to visit me, right? I recommend a visit to Alcatraz (but seriously, start looking at tickets now because, apparently, you have to plan in advance...who knew?). We haven't gone yet but we were thinking about it in a couple months. Golden Gate Park is nice, from what I hear...we actually took our photos at Fort Point Park, which is right next to the bridge (it's the last exit before you go over the bridge). If you're looking for all the yarnz, I will tell you to go to ImagiKnit and Artfibers. ImagiKnit is near the Mission District (I recommend a cab to get there). Artfibers is just off Market Street and I've walked there from the Ferry Building. Also, Fisherman's Wharf. Fresh seafood? Yes, please :)
Third of all....wait, that's all I have :)
Your socks are looking great! Sorry to hear about the slowdown with the sprained wrist though. UGH!
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to take in a show while in Vegas I recommend Blue Man Group. They're amazing live!
Oooh that sounds like so much fun! What kind of restaurants do you like? There are so many restaurants in San Francisco, there are fancy upscale ones all the way to hole in the wall restaurants with large followings. Well you must visit Pier 39 that is the tourist destination and there are many restaurants there. I would say you have to try a clam chowder bread bowl from Boudin's while you are there, that is like the stereotypical San Francisco food. There is Fisherman's Wharf as another person listed which is by Pier 39, and if you are a hippy at heart then you definitely need to visit Haight-Ashbury. And you need to go see the Golden Gate Bridge. Alcatraz is interesting, but if you have limited time, unless you are really interested in the history, its not super exciting to visit... its a prison :P. But do not go to an area called the Tenderloin, at least not after dark. During the day its ok, its just an area where there are many homeless people, but it has super good ethnic food restaurants, if you happen to go shopping near Union Square and go past the Westfield mall you will be venturing towards that neighborhood. Its right next to the financial district which is where Union Square is located in. If you are interested in shopping then you should visit Union Square, there are many high end stores there like Neiman Marcus as well as boutique-like stores, and its very close to Artfibers. And Artfibers is just a block away from Chinatown. Ah I love sf so much, I live just an hour away. :] Feel free to email me with any questions! geoknitology@gmail.com Here is some more info about the neightborhoods (

As for your projects I really love the black with the brown granny squares, can I steal your idea? It looks really nice together. Also I want to hear more about these drunken gymnastics. Sorry to hear about your wrist, hope it heals soon. Sorry for the essay of a comment!
Oh dear about your wrist-whatever you have been doing to cause this condition must stop! Your crochet blanket is so warm looking and if I was you I would just add it to your list, even temporarily, so you can work on it and blog about it guilt free. Good job on the wedding plans--I wish I had some recommendations for you, but even though I am an American I must say I have been to neither of the locations you have chosen!
ReplyDelete*smiles and a hug*
Ugh. I so understand the hand injuries. Glad you are having fun with your wedding planning. And your Honeymoon sounds like it will be a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteooh, this might just work.... I am so sorry about your wrist, the socks are tantalisingly close to finished! The afghan is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your engagement! Planning a wedding is such fun. Your honeymoon sounds wonderful too. I visited SF a long time ago and loved it, I'm sure you will have a blast.

remember the vegas motto: what happens in vegas, stays in vegas...
ReplyDeleteI think one of our members lives in san fran...
thanks for the SF info, that's really useful!
ReplyDeleteby all means steal my colour scheme, I only chose those colours as I had to match the brown room it's going to live in.
Alcatraz is definitely on the list, so I will be sure to check out booking ahead of time. ImagiKnit is definitely also on the list - I refuse to go all the way to America and not visit at least one LYS while I'm there!
ReplyDeleteAm sure we can arrange to meet up for lunch or something while we're there! Would be great to meet you and the Little Man.
I'm still not entirely sure how the gymnastics came about, but it was quite late on in the evening and I found myself doing cartwheels and handsprings on the lawn, trying to teach one of my (male) colleagues how to do them properly.
Sadly, there are no photos of the drunken gymnastics; it was quite late and dark by that point and all the cameras had gone home!
ReplyDeleteI hope your wrist heels up quickly, that's rubbish. I have done my fair share of drunken gymnastics, and it's never a good idea. Doubley so if a trampoline is involved as well. If it's any consolation, the socks are looking great, and so's the afghan (especially when spread out on the bed from earlier this week). And I'm very jealous of your honeymoon, hope you have an amazing time!
ReplyDeleteOh no, hope your wrist gets better quickly! Looks like you've at least been able to get some major wedding planning items done, yay! Your honeymoon will be sooo much fun, there's a ton to do out there!
