Wednesday again!

Progress! On my sock!!!

I turned the heel last Wednesday, at roleplay night. I seem to only ever work on this project at roleplay night! Once I'd got my head around the mistakes in the pattern that point you to the wrong stitch marker to start the heel from, it was plain sailing. I've actually done further than this picture shows, as I've worked up a few inches of the ankle now as well.

They are too big for me, but fit Jamie perfectly. So I think they will be his socks. Even though they are pink and purple! I do think I will have a severe case of second sock syndrome though. The half finished one I have from my first attempt (doing it without stitch markers - bad idea) was done with a 4mm hook, but I've used a 3.5mm hook for this one. So I can't just pick that one up and work out where I ought to be with it and carry on. Plus I need to work out how much of the ball of yarn this sock has used up, in case I can squeeze the other sock out of the same ball and save the rest for another project (perhaps another wrap or stole, since my Mum's came out so nice). I think I will have at least one and half balls left over, maybe more. Enough to tackle any number of the shawl patterns in my Ravelry queue!

Not much progress on the others. Haven't touched the filet in a while (it's my other go-to project for roleplay night, you see, so I've been ignoring it in favour of the sock). Still haven't sorted out blocking my Aurora vest, although I plan to do some test motifs using my spare yarn to see which method works best, as I'm still not sure how to approach the 50% acrylic/50% merino blend I used. More on that, when I get around to doing it!

I did start a couple of other projects this week, but they are all finished already, so you'll see those on Friday. I wish I had more exciting progress to report, but between impending exam doom (2 weeks to go!) and the mountain of housework we had to do this week to prepare for new windows (being fitted today), I haven't really had the time to get much done.

For more interesting WIP stories, you know where to go.

  1. The sock is looking great ;) I was the same about neglecting other projects to work on my socks too. Good plan to try out different methods of blocking before tackling the vest - I did the same with my acrylic blend and definitely felt more comfortable about it!

It's so pretty though.I love it. Would it shrink in the wash maybe?

  5. How do crochet socks feel on your feet?  I haven't made any yet because I'm afraid the thicker stitches will bother me when I walk on them.

  6. I had the same worry, but this pattern uses extended single crochet instead of plain single crochet, so the fabric has a lot more movement in it. It's nowhere near as stiff as I thought it would be. At the moment, they don't feel that different to me, than the pair of socks my friend knit for me. More suited to being house socks, than going-inside-shoes socks thought.

  7. Well, the yarn is machine washable sock yarn so I don't think it will shrink. I don't mind, he can have the socks, I will have the pretty shawlette I will make from the remaining yarn!

  8.  Wow, I'm impressed. My first crochet sock was HUGE and wouldn't fit anyone properly! I hope you get to the second sock when it's time!

  9. That is SO, so pretty.  The only crochet sock patterns I've seen have been more for slippers and weren't really attractive, imo.  But yours is coming along beautifully and looks so nice it makes me want to do a pair, too!!

  11. They're looking good. I actually like the little stitch holders hanging from them. LOL! I need to learn to knit/crochet socks.

  12. I love it that they will be his socks despite the color.  I've never been one to think males and females should only wear certain colors.  I wonder if you will try sock knitting now that you have successfully crocheted some?

  13. If that's your foot, it looks like it fits.  How does crochet socks feel?  The question is, will he wear socks in those colors?

  14. On the colour thing, I totally agree. When I first realised they would be too big, he claimed them as his own then, so I don't think he's bothered by the colour!

Still have no desire to knit a pair of socks. That may change once I start Knitting Properly though... watch this space!

  15. That is my foot, and they are only a teensy bit big. The heel isn't snug to my foot, and the ankle is too wide. But they fit himself perfectly, and he thinkgs they are awesome, so I'm sure they'll get worn! They don't feel much different to the handknit socks my friend made me last year.

  17. I  think I gasped out loud a little at the sock, it looks gorgeous.  The stripes are great and it's so plush-looking!  Also, pink and purple socks on men? Totally awesome. :D

  18. I love a man who can rock girly colors with confidence!   Second sock syndrome is an epidemic, I swear.
